Ode to salads

A salad is what perfection is on a plate or in a bowl. A mix of everything delightful to you to sooth the soul on a bad day or a good one. I remember arguing with family members, who also love salad, on who would eat that final leftover bowl at night while watching TV.

It was the usual classic Egyptian salad that accompanies all meals: lettuce, cucumber, tomato, carrot, green pepper and parsley with the Mediterranean dressing of olive oil, white vinegar, lemon, salt, pepper, and dried mint. A typical presence on an Egyptian dinning table.

Now, with the recent vegetarian food tends, salads come in all shapes and forms. Cold and hot. Any ingredient can go in there and combine to result in the perfect dish of your choice, including meat and starches. As much as your stomach can bare can be eaten and you won’t feel tied down with lack of energy. And when a good bowl of hot soup is also involved, well, that’s just as close as possible to full happiness.

In front of the TV, I will take a good bowl of hearty salad over popcorn any day.

Here’s a good link of salads.
